I moderated a panel as part of HillVets about “Changing the Narrative: Bridging the Military to Civilian Gap in Media” with guests David Wood and Thomas Brennan. We discussed the image of veterans in the media as either damaged or as a stoic warrior. Our discussion touched on ways we can bridge the gap between civilians and the military community by telling our stories through different platforms from social media, to opinion pieces, to television, etc.
David Wood, Journalist “Wood’s series on severely wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, which explored advances in battlefield trauma medicine and what that has meant for those who fall in battle, won the 2012 Pulitzer Prizes for national reporting.”
Thomas Brennan, author & veteran: “Founder of The War Horse. His work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Center for Investigative Reporting, and on the front page of The New York Times.”
